Confirm NFC Capability

Most modern Android phones (Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, ASUS, Sony Xperia, Redmi, etc.) include NFC; check Settings → Connected Devices → Connection Preferences → NFC.

If you see the toggle, your device supports it

Enable NFC

  • Go to SettingsConnected devices (or Network & Internet) → Connection preferences → Toggle NFC ON - support.google.com.

  • n Samsung: Settings → ConnectionsNFC and contactless payments, then toggle on

How NFC Works

Android’s tag dispatch system actively scans when the screen is unlocked and NFC is enabled; it automatically opens webpages encoded in NFC tags

Troubleshooting Steps
  • Ensure NFC is toggled on.
  • Remove thick or magnetic phone cases—they can interfere.
  • Screen must be on and unlocked for detection.
  • Tap at the correct zone and hold steadily (~2 seconds).
Quick Tips

Android (Google, Samsung, Xiaomi, etc.)

  • Turn on NFC: Settings → Connected Devices → Connection Preferences → NFC → Toggle ON
  • Tap the back of your phone, near the center or top.
  • Remove thick/magnetic cases for best results.

Which iPhones Work?

iPhone 7 and newer support NFC; from iPhone Xs/XR onward, background tag scanning is supported natively (iOS 11+). Simply tap the top of your phone to scan

How to Scan

  • iPhone Xs and later (with iOS 11+): No app needed! Raise the top of your phone to the tag; a notification appears automatically .

  • Phone 7–X: Enable NFC via Control Center (iOS 14+), or use an app like “NFC Tag Reader”

Background Scanning Behavior

  • iOS background scanning works only when the screen is on, and might be paused during app use, camera access, or after a restart
  • Common community tip: Locking and unlocking the device “wakes” NFC scanning
Troubleshooting Steps
  • If background scanning fails: open Control Center and tap the NFC icon.
  • Alternatively, install a reader app (e.g., “NFC Tag Reader”).
  • Plug the top of your phone close to the NFC area.
  • Try locking/unlocking the phone to trigger scanning.
